Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am so excited to be teaching Shelby Middle School Technology this year and look forward to the opportunity to get to know your child.
I truly believe that technology is a vital part of today’s society and that it is important for students of all ages learn to use it both creatively and safely. My goal is to share my passion for technology with your child and make it fun – as a result, I hope to provide them with the tools to make them successful both in and out of the classroom.
Next, I am going to explain one of the websites I use in class, Google Classroom. I am attempting to go primarily “paperless” in this class to save money and to get the students familiar with this kind of setup for future classes.
I am going to try to explain some of components of this website, but please note, they do not usually get computer homework so this website is primarily for my IN CLASS assignments, not homework. I use the free website, Google Classroom, to help faciliate my class assignments. Each student can automatically login with their school Google account. The students do not have free will to privately message each other through this website. It is possible for the students to post on the page, but I have told them not to do so because it clutters the page and I do not want them randomly posting without my permission. They are allowed to use this option if we are having a group discussion in class.
Please do not click on the boxes to take the tests or turn in the assignments unless I have instructed them to do so. When the students submit an assignment, they must hit the “TURN IN” key at the bottom of the document in order to turn it in.
My guidelines, procedures, and description of some of the repeating assignments for the class are in the “First Day Presentation” located in the Google Classroom page and on my webpage.
Most of my assignments that are listed on the page are in class so I can assist them. Rarely, will they have homework, because not all the students have access to computers at home. I give them ample time to work on assignments with my assistance. If they have homework, it is usually something they can do without a computer.
They have journal entries twice a week, but I do not grade them until the weekends in case they need to catch up. I tell them to fill out the entries as they go through the period. They can submit any number of entries at a time. BUT they cannot turn them in after that week!
If they have a homework assignment, it will be on the Progress Book Homework page so you do not have to check the Classroom site for homework.
I also have this website that you can access through my google Classroom or through http://shelbymscomputers.weebly.com You should be able to find out any information on that you might have about the class.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me between 8:00-8:30 any weekday. 419-347-5451 or email me at: [email protected]
Hope you have a wonderful school year!!
